In this forum post, Line 6 customer roblof cracked open his X3 and gave us specs on some of the electronic components inside the X3. This is what he saw:

POD X3 Processing Power

• X3 CPU: NXP ARM7-Controller LPC2220FBD144
• X3 Converters: 3pcs of the CS4272 - 24-Bit, 192 kHz, 114 dB Stereo CODEC
• X3 DSP: SHARC ADSP-21369 at 266MHz, 1.6 GFLOPS
• XT DSP: SHARC ADSP-21065 at 60 MHz, 180 MFLOPS
• Axe-FX DSP: TigerSharc at 500MHz, 3.0GFLOPS

All in all, it works out to almost nine times the DSP horsepower of POD XT. Nine POD XT units in one box! Well, the DSP power of 9 POD XT units. In actual features and capability it is more like two POD XT units in one box. The sound is great though. Line 6 must have been able to work some extra mojo in there this time with the increased power available. Many of the amp models and effects just sound more wow. One fine example that is instantly noticeable is the Criminal model from the XT era Metal Shop model pack. To my ears, the Criminal was pretty useless going direct. Through a tube power amp and half stack it killed, but direct it was wimpy and worthless. The X3 is another story. The Criminal amp model in X3 sounds awesome direct or through a power amp. Many other amp models are improved, but that is the one I think has the most tangible increase in sonic character.
