POD Patches - Guitar World (June 2008)

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

I have been way behind on cooking up some tasty guitar sounds to go along with the June 2008 issue of Guitar World. So in the interest of actually getting these posted there are no sound samples this month. As always, these guitar tones can be directly loaded into any Line 6 product that uses Gearbox as its editor. This includes POD XT, POD X3, all the TonePorts, and even the Gearbox Plugin. A few of the patches this month are dual tone pairs so you will only be able to use one part of the patch at a time if your device does not support dual tones. If you don’t have Line 6 gear you can still try dialing these settings in on your amp to see how close you can get.

Included this month:

  • Children of Bodom - Lake Bodom
  • Dethklok - Thunderhorse
  • Avenged Sevenfold - Almost Easy
  • Foghat - Slow Ride
  • Heart - Barracuda

Bass POD XT presets for GearBox

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

The Line 6 Edit files used for backing up Bass POD XT patches is incompatible with the more modern Gearbox editor and plugin. This has made the Bass POD XT sounds off-limits to Gearbox users until now. Here are all the factory presets from Bass POD XT Live and Bass POD XT for use with Gearbox. You can use these bass sounds with TonePort, POD X3, POD XT with bass model pack, Gearbox Plugin, or any other Line 6 product that supports the Gearbox patch format. Use them live, use them at practice, use them in your home studio, use them with your Gearbox plugin in your DAW! Get the patches

POD Patches: Lincoln Brewster guitar sounds

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Lincoln Brewster’s guitar sounds have been respected by many. He also happens to be a very high profile player of POD X3 Live. His tone is sought after by many aspiring guitarists due to his using such a readily available and affordable piece of gear for his tone. While copping his patches exactly can give you instant gratification, I find it much more desirable to learn how to get better at creating my own tones by studying great guitar sounds created by others. This article is an in-depth analysis of Lincoln Brewster’s live guitar sounds as heard through his POD X3 Live. Take a closer look at the guitar sounds of Lincoln Brewster

POD Patches - Guitar World (May 2008)

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Here are some guitar tones I cooked up to go with the May issue of Guitar World. Every month I make some POD patches to go along with the transcriptions I play through while practicing. People always end up asking me for the POD settings so here they are. You can download the patches in Gearbox format to use with any compatible Line 6 product. You can also put the settings into any other amp and see how close you can get. This month I made Motorhead, Metallica and Stevie Ray Vaughan guitar tones. There are some sound clips here too if you want to see how close you think I got before downloading the patches. Give me the patches

POD X3 Dual tone demos

Friday, April 11th, 2008

The tones from the Line 6 dual tone tour were curiously not included in the factory presets of POD X3. Eventually the creator of the guitar tones did make them available as a bundle. Working with bundles can be a bit cumbersome, especially before the dawn of Gearbox for POD X3. Now that we have Gearbox, it has become possible to access the tones individually. Here are the fabled spiritguitar presets from the dual tone demos. Give me the spiritguitar Gearbox presets

POD X3 Live factory presets

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Here are the Gearbox compatible preset files for the extra factory presets in POD X3. The zip file should extract to a number of folders, each matching the name of a preset folder of POD X3. The introduction of Gearbox software for POD X3 is a great help to the home recording studio. Adding Gearbox Plugin to your POD X3 gives you the full capability of the Gold Bundle with all the guitar, bass and vocal amp models. Give me the presets

POD Patches - Guitar World (April 2008)

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Every month I try to write some cool POD patches to go along with my subscription to Guitar World. I authored these patches on my POD X3 Live but you can use them on any Line 6 device or any other modeler that has appropriate amp models. Boss GT-8, V-Amp, Digitech modelers, you name it, you can probably type these and and make them sound pretty cool. This month I got to play around a bit with Amplitube 2 and Guitar Rig 3 so there are some sound samples and patches for those modelers as well. Which do you think sound best? Give me the patches! »

POD Tips and Tricks: How do I duplicate an artist’s sound?

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Trying to cop your favorite artist’s tone is not a byproduct of the age of amp modeling in which we live. People have been trying to nail tones off records for years. The prevalence of amp modeling has only made it easier. “How do I get _____’s guitar tone?” has got to be the most frequently asked question in the modeling community. I have made a serious hobby (including this website) out of copping the sounds from famous recordings. This article is covers my approach to answering that question. (more…)

POD Patches - Guitar World (February 2008)

Monday, December 31st, 2007

Every month I try to write some cool POD patches to go along with my subscription to Guitar World. This month I was a bit busy with the holidays so I only did one tone, but I think it is killer! A few of the transcriptions are for songs that aren’t very extrodinary tonally or are played acoustically. I just was not inspired to play through those songs and/or write patches for them this month. Maybe I’ll make up for it next month. These are billed as POD patches but will work on any Line 6 that has the appropriate amp models. Give me a Metallica patch! »
