POD X3: New Flash Memory 1.01.1

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Line 6 have since updated POD X3 flash memory to 1.11.0. Read more about it.

Update November 22, 2007

Today I opened Monkey to do some bundle manipulation and noticed the flash memory is now showing the correct version from the front page. You no longer need to do this manual process. I will leave this page up for people who would like to do it manually. Also there is good information on calibrating your pedal and diagnostic mode of X3 below.

Today Line 6 announced the 1.01.1 firmware update to their POD X3 series. The new version of Monkey is not currently seeing the new firmware so updating requires a bit of manual intervention. Here are the steps to get going. Show me how to update my X3 »

Buy gear based on sound, not numbers!

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Digital gear is here to stay and I am not one to argue that. I do not mind and use plenty of digital gear. What I don’t understand is why so many people are obsessed with making gear buying decisions based on the numbers. It seems like there are always people out on the message boards and forums asking for, and comparing, specs. “Buy product A because it has a higher sample rate,” “Buy product B because it has more DSP horsepower,” “Buy product C because it has higher internal bit depth.” Rubbish. What ever happened to the good old days (more…)

Line 6 brings it with TonePort UX8

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Even more great stuff is coming soon from Line 6. I’ve using the TonePort UX2 for a few years now. It is a great unit for quickly capturing quality tracks without fussing with a bunch of setup. Using a mixer with a conventional soundcard is a necessity to minimize setup time for recording but you still have to get everything connected to that mixer and routed properly when you are ready to lay down tracks. The TonePort series give you minimum need for setup and routing. Just plug in to the unit, select your sound source, and hit record. The UX8 is looking even cooler. The unit has eight hardware mic preamps with hardware gain controls right on the front panel and some nice routing and monitoring options. The thing that really impresses me with this unit is the inclusion of the Line 6 GearBox plugin for free! Yes, for free with the purchase of the UX8. I have long thought the GearBox plugin should be free with all Line 6 hardware. It just makes sense. Home recording and pro studio enthusiasts owe it to themselves to check out the TonePort UX8.
