The Line 6 Edit files used for backing up Bass POD XT patches is incompatible with the more modern Gearbox editor and plugin. This has made the Bass POD XT sounds off-limits to Gearbox users until now. Here are all the factory presets from Bass POD XT Live and Bass POD XT for use with Gearbox. You can use these bass sounds with TonePort, POD X3, POD XT with bass model pack, Gearbox Plugin, or any other Line 6 product that supports the Gearbox patch format. Use them live, use them at practice, use them in your home studio, use them with your Gearbox plugin in your DAW! Get the patches

It is no secret that you can mix and match guitar amps with bass cabs and bass amps with guitar cabs on any Line 6 modeler that has both guitar amps and bass amps. A more subtle side effect of this is the ability to use the guitar mics on bass cabs and bass mics on guitar cabs. Since it is pretty easy to mix and match the cabs, this article is going to focus on the cabs that allow you to mix and match the microphones. You can use this technique on POD X3, POD XT (with bass model pack), TonePort, and even the Gearbox Plugin. There is also a hidden benefit if you have a unit with only guitar or only bass models. The bass guitar is an important element of every contemporary mix even though it rarely plays a prominent role. Sometimes the bass is felt rather than heard while other mixes have the bass in a much more audible sonic space. Your home recording studio is well equipped to shape your bass tracks as long as you have a basic equalizer and compressor. Show me how

Here is another POD X3 patch for gigging bass players to work from. This is the patch I used for my first gig with the POD X3 Live where I was using my full stack. I tried to get a sound that would compensate for the lack of biamp features on the POD X3. An amp with more upper mids and top end was sent to one cab while an amp with more low end and sub bass thump was sent to the bottom cab. Show me the patch »

The TouchyFeeliacs is the band I play bass with. For our last show we had a cramped stage so my full bass rig was not an option. Instead I played my POD X3 Live through a Roland KC-500. The stage was so cramped I couldn’t even put the pedal board on the floor, I had to stack it on top of the amp! The KC-500 is a full range keyboard amp with multiple inputs. Here is the POD X3 preset I used on my bass and some video clips of the show where you can hear a bit of the tone I got. Show me the details »

Does the Line 6 POD X3 mean the deat of the Bass POD line of products from Line 6? POD X3 is quite capable when it comes to creating fat and funky bass tones. It does fall short of the capabilities of past Bass POD units in a few key areas. Guitarists who want to lay down some bass tracks on their recordings will find POD X3 to be quite capable. Full time bassists looking for a powerful gigging tool may be a bit let down. Let’s explore some of the strengths and shortcomings of POD X3 as a Bass POD XT replacement.

Time for the next chapter in the tracking of The Ballad of Stumpy Ron. Tonight I worked on tracking the bass. My goal was to get a very solid bass tone that would add the needed beef to the mix without cutting through too much or obscuring the guitars. To keep the bass from getting lost, I wanted to achieve a particular level of attack so I used a pick on this song even though I am typically a finger player. I recorded the bass using the USB outs of the X3 Live. I didn’t bother to try capturing a DI signal from the bass on this one because I am going for a more old school sound and want to On To The Patches »
